Samsung Heavy Industries was selected by UTOPIA to complete the marine engineering, hull and propeller testing for the UTOPIA residential ocean liner. The Vice Chairman of Samsung, said, “this ocean liner will be the most luxurious ship in the world.” Samsung, the number one shipbuilder in the world for complex vessels, has drawn upon a team of over 300 engineers to work on the luxury ocean liner. Samsung completed Utopia’s ship hull prototype that will be used for testing vibration and fluid dynamics in the largest industrial towing tank in the world. Some of these tests have already been completed. Samsung has built eight large vessels that carry passengers and cars, some of which carry up to 1,200 passengers, and is developing a database of core technologies related to noise, vibration, interior design, and fuel efficiency for global cruise ships.
